You can’t even order them according to the experience points they need. I would prefer if they were in a tree chart. I found it very convoluted the way the spells are displayed tho. Some of the spells can affect the whole map or are passive abilities that work on the whole army if the hero is the leader. Although most of the races have pretty much the same classes to be recruited, there are some very special units that you can build, like dragons! There are also the heroes that can wear equipment and level up to learn new spells/abilities. One thing that is nice is how you can attack once, twice or three times depending on the distance that you are from your enemy. It can be hard to see which unities are enemies or how much damage you will do and take or how far the enemy will be able to go. So, the combat will start to feel repetitive pretty soon. As for the tactical battle, there aren’t that many varieties of maps. It would be much cooler if we could see an appearance change whenever our city grew, or we built something new.

When there are many enemies on the map, it can take such a long time! For the 4X part, the cities all look pretty much the same and have the same structures to be built no matter which race it belongs to. I preferred the not simultaneous option, but then you have to wait for the pc to play. It’s turn based and you can choose between simultaneous turns or not. I have only played the Elven Court campaign, so this review is only for the single player experience. That said, although I love this combination, they could improve on it a bit. Whenever you get tired of micromanaging your empire, there is a very cool tactical battle waiting for you. 90h PlayedAge of Wonders III is an amazing combination of a 4x strategy game with tactical rpg battles.
