When the user touches the other side of the card which is yet to be printed, it contaminates the card. There are old-fashioned printers in which the user has to manually flip the card after having its one side printed.
There are specially designed printers that are used for cards on which the information is to be printed on both sides. However, when it comes to designing the double side card, then people usually don’t choose any orientation since they get plenty of space. Landscape orientation is useful when you want to add the information horizontally and for displaying information vertically, portrait mode is usually considered. Both orientations have their own benefits. When there was no concept of making the ID card with two sides, the card designers used to be given the choice to choose between landscape mode or portrait orientation.
